Hey Everyone!
Today in our tutorial for Document Management 1, we were
looking at social bookmarking tools such as Diigo, Delicious, CiteUlike, etc. and
also collaboration through Google Docs with our group members. My group,
Suzanne, Luisa, Nouf, Kate, Christina and myself had already set up a google
doc at the beginning of the semester in order to help each other with any issues
we were having with our blogging assignment. Therefore, in today’s tutorial we
extended this document to include discussions on the social bookmarking tools
we were exploring and helping each other with them as well. It is handy to have
a central document through which we can ask questions and get help from our
other group members.
We also came up with a group name through suggestions and
voting and came up with the name: Bloggers Anonymous!
So, in exploring social blogging tools we were mainly
focused on Diigo during today’s discussion, although, I am sure there will be
more discussions on other tools later on. I was able to create a Diigo account
and add some of my most used websites into my library of bookmarks. I have
previously used the bookmark tool on Google Chrome to collect and organise my
bookmarks, however, Diigo will allow me to share them with others if I choose
to. At the moment I have set all my bookmarks to private as I don’t really want
to share them, however, at a later stage, if I found an interesting website or
article, etc. I might do so.
Having the Google doc to discuss diigo was helpful
particularly for issues that we face, for example, I wanted to import all my
bookmarks from Google Chrome to Diigo. Kate discovered a good way in which to
achieve this and wrote about it on the group’s Google Doc and thanks to her
message I was able to import all my Google Chrome bookmarks.
So far in my short experience with Diigo I am finding that
it is quite handy to have all my bookmarks in the one location and are easy to
organise into lists, etc.
Update: I have added the link to the group Google Doc in my links list under: 'Bloggers Anonymous - Google Doc'.

Hi Lisette, great summary of what we got up to in our tutorial! Thanks again for your contributions and help in signing up with Diigo. It's great to be able to do it in class and help each other out on the spot.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like we've had pretty similar experiences using Google Chrome's bookmarks, so it will be interesting to see if we are both able to persevere with Diigo. I wonder whether it will meet our expectations?! :)
Happy blogging!
Kate
Hi Kate! Not a problem, anytime! Thanks for your assistance with importing my bookmarks from Google Chrome! Yeah it is good to be able to help each other during class.
DeleteI think after a bit more investigation we will see if it meets our expectations. At the moment I am using it in a similar way to the Google Chrome bookmark function.
You were cruising along doing your Diigo work! Great review of everything you did and nice teamwork
